4 How Do We Get There from Here? B ack in 1923 when the New Car Dealers of Utah was formed, no one, I’m sure, could comprehend that by 2025 the U.S. market share for electric vehicles is estimated to be 5%. That’s 7 years from now. Here’s what I know: the things we all do today, are what creates the foundation for a strong and vibrant tomorrow. What the members of this organization, and others like it across our country do today is what will shape our industry tomorrow, and while changes are certain, the experts – along with the dealers – all expect the industry to be healthy and intact. During my time with NCDU, I have come to see firsthand how our dealers not only face change, deal with it daily, but handle it well and thrive. Adaptability for sure, is a skill set that all our dealers have, and something that is very obvious in the Q&As with our outgoing president Chris Hemmersmeier, our incoming president Tim Dahle, our Time Dealer of the Year Nominee, Brent Brown, and our feature story of Gail Miller, our inductee in the NCDU Hall of Fame. This issue of Utah Auto Dealer - which, by the way, is our premier issue - gives us an opportunity to look at four successful dealer organizations: Brent Brown Toyota, the Larry H. Miller group of dealerships, Jerry Seiner and Tim Dahle Nissan & Infiniti. Gail Miller, Brent Brown, Chris Hemmersmeier and Tim Dahle are all exceptional people and business owners which exemplify the quality of our dealer members. They have inspiring stories. From there to here, speaks to an industry that not only adapts, but looks for ways to thrive and improve while doing it. I think it speaks volumes of the dealers that define who we are as an organization. As we start the new year, NCDU is well positioned to help our membership be more successful through our legislative efforts, our educational offerings and our networking opportunities. I firmly believe that the auto industry here in Utah is as strong and vibrant as it is because we have members that commit to being good at what they do, day in and day out. I would also like to thank those associate members who jumped onboard to support our communication efforts within our association by placing an ad in our magazine, Utah Auto Dealer. This publication is another way we keep our members informed and inspired. Thank you, and here’s to a great 2018! 3 The things we all do today, are what creates the foundation for a strong and vibrant tomorrow. Craig Bickmore Executive Director
