7 As a leader within the local auto industry, how did you approach helping dealers face challenges at their dealerships? It’s really an NCDU approach which we as a board fully support. NCDU works hard to provide good resources, not just to keep members informed, but to also provide training on topics that directly impact running a dealership. We’ve had legal and legislative seminars. NCDU has brought in the Tax Commission for trainings on tax implications. Are you involved in any civic or charitable organizations? I am. I’m involved with the Catholic schools and on the board of the University of Utah Museum of Fine Arts. Here at the dealerships we support the Children’s Center and Sub for Santa. If you look back at your career and life, what would be three things that you have learned, that you would pass onto a younger member within the auto industry? The auto industry is a wonderful place in which to earn a liv- ing and build a life-long career. But, you need to work hard and have a passion for it. If you could describe the best day in this business, what would it look like? It would have to be when a customer or an employee lets me know that the dealership has made a difference in their life. Describe your all-time favorite vehicle (it can be one you’ve owned, or something on your wish list). What are you driving today? I drive a Cadillac Escalade. Here’s the deal, I am really not a car guy, which is funny given what I do for a living! Cars for me are a way to get to and from places. Tell us about your family. My wife Sandy and I are proud parents to three boys, Ste- phen, Tim and Sean. Tim and Sean are still in college. What is your favorite way to spend your free time? Any unusual hobbies? Sandy and I love to travel – especially to Europe. We also like the beach in Coronado. We have a small fine wine importing business. We import wines from France and Italy, and sell them through the state liquor stores here in Utah. We distribute to a lot of restaurants outside of Utah as well. Jackson Hole is a big market. 3 The auto industry is a wonderful place in which to earn a living and build a life-long career.
