20 Mark Miller M ark Miller grew up in the automobile business. As a young man he worked in the sales, service and parts departments of his father's Pontiac dealership. Beginning in 1973 he devel- oped an interest in computers when the company purchased an IBM System 3. After developing the programs used by the dealership, he began marketing his programs to local dealers. In 1976, IBM marketed the system as an Installed User Program and then in 1978 he sublicensed the programs to Advance Computer Systems. This partnership resulted in sales to a large number of individual dealers as well as Toyota, Cars-Dyatron, General Motors, ADP and finally Dealer Track. In January of 1987 Mark was elected to the National Automobile Dealers Association Board of Directors. As a part of his first committee assignment he was responsible for the development of an automated sales management system. He served as chairman of the Dealership Operation and Membership Committees, as a Regional Vice President and as one of 10 Trustees of NADART. Mark Miller Subaru has been a member of the Chairman's Roundtable seven times. In 1988 he received the AIADA/ Sports Illustrated/Dealer of Distinction award. In 1994 he received the Time Magazine Quality Dealer Award and in 1995 he was one of eight dealers nationally to win the AIADA/Sports Illustrated All-Star Dealer Award. Mark Miller Subaru was recently chosen as the Retailer of the Year by Subaru. Toyota recently recognized, for the 24th year, Mark Miller Toyota's commitment to customer service with the prestigious President's Award. Mark Miller Subaru South Towne was recently recognized locally and nationally as one of the best dealerships to work for. Mr. Miller lives in Salt Lake City with his wife, Kathie. He and Kathie have three children and nine grandchildren. Mark has served as the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, and has served as the Chairman of the Utah Chapter of the Young Presidents Organization and the Board of Trustees of Rowland Hall-St. Marks. He represented Utah’s new car dealers on the Motor Vehicle Advisory Board for 12 years and was appointed by Governor Leavitt to the Utah Sports Authority Board. Mark served as the Venue Chair for the Utah Olympic Park during the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. He recently completed his 200th mission for Angel Flight and has served on their Board of Directors and as treasurer of their foundation. He recently completed his service as Chairman of Board of Trustees of University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics and is the current Chair of the Utah Genome Project. Through the Mark and Kathie Miller Foundation, Mark and Kathie play an active role in the Salt Lake Community. In 2011, Mark and Kathie received the United Way’s Compassionate Leader of the Year Award.
