23 What’s the one professional accomplishment that you have achieved that you are most proud of? The real accomplishment for me is that I’ve been able to work in the family business and to have relationships there that are both personal and professional, and I am also proud that I’ve had the opportunity to direct the company and continue to involve other family members. I’ve been selling cars since the day I finished high school. Being part of a family business isn’t just about turning a profit. It’s also about getting along with other people, employing lots of friends and neighbors, and being in a position to give people “car counsel.” This business has been a big win for me and my whole family. We are deeply involved in our community. We make charitable donations and we sponsor events, such as holding the high school prom at the dealership and a lot of other school-related programs such as our Player of the Week parties. We love the local schools and really enjoy being involved in making that high school experience memorable for students. For the prom, we charge $500 to rent the facility and then donate the money right back to the school. At one dance, we had 700 students. We also take an interest in the football and basketball programs. Sometimes we arrange for good speakers to come and talk to the students. As a few examples, we’ve had the good fortune to have Thurl Bailey speak. We’ve also had Shawn Bradley and Scott Mitchell. Ultimately, our goal at John Watson Chevrolet is to be an active part of the community and to support other local businesses. It’s all a part of giving back to everyone who makes this such a great place to live. 3 Ultimately, our goal at John Watson Chevrolet is to be an active part of the community and to support other local businesses.
