4 W henever the topic of training comes up, this story comes to mind: A manager was lamenting the work that goes into properly training his staff, and made the comment, “What if I train the staff and they leave?” In response, the person he was speaking to responded, “What if you don’t, and they stay?” Yes, training takes work and it takes commitment. It’s an investment, but it’s an investment that pays dividends like nothing else. The auto industry is a people industry, and your people are the best resource you have, so it stands to reason that you would want to do everything you can to train them to be better representatives of your brand, your product and you, because if you are in the car business, chances are that it’s your name on the sign in front of your building. Training is crucial for organizational development and success. It is fruitful to both employers and employees of an organization. Employees will become more efficient and productive if they are trained well. It’s our goal to help you train for excellence in all areas of your dealership. We firmly believe that building better dealerships starts with training you, your managers, and your team. What are the benefits? Improved employee performance – the employee who receives the necessary training is more able to perform in their job. Improved employee satisfaction and morale – the investment in training that a company makes shows employees that they are valued. Addressing weaknesses – Most employees will have some weaknesses in their workplace skills. A training program allows you to strengthen those skills that each employee needs to improve. Consistency – A training and development program ensures that employees have a consistent experience and background knowledge. Increased productivity and adherence to quality standards – Productivity usually increases when a company implements training courses. Increased innovation in new strategies and products – Ongoing training and upskilling of the workforce can encourage creativity. Reduced employee turnover – Staff are more likely to feel valued if you invest in them and, therefore, are also less likely to change employers. Enhances company reputation and profile – Having a strong and successful training strategy helps to develop your employer brand and make your company a prime consideration for graduates and mid- career changes. The auto industry is changing. We see it daily. However, to face what comes, we all need to be ready and be at the top of our game. We all need to bring our best selves to the workplace every day, and NCDU can help. 3 Craig Bickmore Executive Director Training for Excellence in All Areas of the Dealership
